Now all eighteen Junior Eurovision songs and their videos have been released. We already know how many songs have a lot of buzz and we also know how many songs are not being welcomed right now. This period of a month’s time should be interesting to see which songs live up to the hype, which don’t, and which come out better than originally expected. In the meantime, here’s my next review:
MONTENEGRO
Song: “I Tužna i Srećna Priča”
Performer: Asja Dzogovic
Montenegro has only been at Junior Eurovision twice before. They competed in the 2014 and 2015 Contests. After a ten-year absence, Montenegro is back and they’re represented by 13-year old Asja Dzogovic. Asja has competed in many singing competitions in the past and has won awards. The song’s title “I Tužna i Srećna Priča” translates to ‘both a happy and sad story.’ The song is about orphaned children and it tells the story of an orphaned boy who searches for the love of a family. Hoping against hope. This ballad starts soft and grows in its intensity. Asja’s vocals project the drama of the story very well. Already I can say this is my favorite Montenegrin song from Junior Eurovision. The vocals aren’t too intense for the song and Asja delivers well.
JESC Chances:
Montenegro has been one of the hard luck nations at the main Eurovision Song Contest. At Junior Eurovision, their best-ever finish is 13th. Asja has the vocals for such a dramatic ballad. It has the potential to do well but there is some question whether people will welcome such a dramatic ballad at Junior Eurovision. Especially since it is about a dark subject matter. It does have a universal message of orphaned children and I know there have been songs at past Junior Eurovision Contests that have dealt with more difficult subject matter in the past. Nevertheless, it does make you wonder if the Junior Eurovision voters will welcome a song like this.
